what's up with there being 10(ish) Sigs?
Covered this a lil in my reblog of Res' post, but-
Iterators in Assembly AU can't do the fandom standard off the string thing, just not how they work, they gotta make lil extra versions of their own mind and slap em in mobile bodies instead. Most iterators find the resulting quasi-plurality kind of uncomfortable, and merge their minds together whenever possible to avoid having multiple separate minds active in the same area. However! Some, like Sig, are actually more comfortable that way, and embrace it as a new part of their identity and self expression.
My Sigs have more selflings than any other iterator, mostly because they were one of the first to have access to the tech and just didn't stop making them. There are many many more than just 10, depending on where you look in the timeline. They also play with their bodily configuration much more than most iterators, making a wide variety of varyingly biological or mechanical bodies to house their selflings in, and enjoying the subtle differences in their personal expression, selfhood, and identity they experience depending on what body they're in. They're just funky little guys 🙏

My friend mentioned the other day that she has started playing "coffee shop jazz music" in her apartment, and doing her best to essentially mimic the vibes of a chill artisan coffee shop in her own home.
And I thought that idea was BRILLIANT so for the last few days I've been playing jazz in my apartment throughout the day, and... well...
Sometimes making one tiny little change to your life really does make a significant difference.

apropos of something
"In the design of objects, they’re trying to reduce the amount of labor, and that changes what the object is,” Bird says. “That produces cheaper goods, but it doesn’t necessarily produce better goods.”
Even as poor or cheap as that garment worker’s labor is, it’s still a significant part of the garment because there is no way to replace that labor. Some of what you’re seeing in that race to the bottom is that literally the time is not being spent in making the thing that would help the thing last longer.
Then there’s the classic way companies keep costs low: underpaying and overworking workers. The speed at which workers are expected to produce and deliver goods is faster than ever before — and speed will always be at odds with quality.
"There is an entire generation of consumers at this point that doesn’t actually know what high-quality clothing feels like and looks like,” Harrington says. “It gets easier, I think, for consumers to just not know any better. But 10 years ago, our clothing was higher quality than it is now. That is actually part of the point.”
It’s actually impossible to buy the same quality bra I had in high school for the same price. It’s simply more expensive to produce now than it was then."
"In reality, what is actually striking when you watch that video is not the cybernetic futurism but rather just how un-automated the scene is. Work has not disappeared from the restaurant floor, but the person doing the work has changed. Instead of an employee inputting orders dictated by the customer, customers now do it themselves for free.
One recent afternoon I stood waiting at a restaurant for a to-go meal that I had ordered the old-fashioned way—by talking to a woman behind the counter and giving her paper money. As I waited for my lunch to be prepared, the man in front of me appeared astonished to receive his food. “How did the app know my order would be ready twenty minutes early?” he marveled, clutching his phone. “Because that was actually me,” the server said. “I sent you a message when it was done.”
Federici’s response was bracing. She vehemently denied the premise of the question—that we must acquiesce to the idea that, come the great automated apocalypse, masses of people would have no productive work to do: “Don’t let them make you think that you are disposable,” she passionately proclaimed."

oh, and one really good thing i did today was sit down with my budget spreadsheet and plan the next year, which i wanted to get ahead with because the current living crisis is yikes already and, as my landlord is trash, my rent is going up in january. 😑.
using a spreadsheet has been so genuinely helpful though. i’ve never managed to budget that effectively before but this method really works for me and i’m much better able to keep track of things and plan ahead. it keeps me accountable as well, which has been helpful with hypo impulsivity. knowing exactly where i’m at means i can answer not just the question of “do i really need it?” but also “can i, right now, actually afford it?”

weekend plans
Next, remove the two 10mm bolts and two 10mm nuts holding the throttle body onto the intake manifold. Seperate the throttle body from the intake manifold, but you do not need to take the throttle body completely off the car. Just set it to the side with the coolant hoses still attached to it.
Just slapping this here in case I need to reference later and need the link for the Waybackmachine. Because who doesn’t need to know how to remove their engine manifold and throttle body? (ok it sounds a bit dirty when you say it like that…)
Remember when people used to make blog posts about how to fix things?

Dhamra Port’s HVAC and Electrical Maintenance Streamlined with XO FRP Scaffolds
Tumblr media
Client Overview: The Dhamra Port Ltd.
The Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL), a 100% subsidiary of Adani Ports and SEZ, operates one of India’s deepest draft ports, capable of accommodating super cape-size vessels. As a multi-user, multi-cargo port, Dhamra is poised to become the largest and most efficient port on the east coast of India.
Challenges & Issues Encountered:
Maintenance at Heights: Maintenance tasks were carried out at various heights, up to 30 feet, across different areas of the port. This created challenges in ensuring safety and accessibility during the work.
Space Consumption: The metal scaffolding required numerous parts, both major and minor, which occupied significant space. This led to operational bottlenecks and complications during audits.
Maintenance and Repairs: The need for frequent repairs of MS scaffolding increased ongoing costs and reduced its overall lifespan, leading to recurring expenses.
Time-Consuming Setup: The erection of scaffolding was labor-intensive and time-consuming, resulting in delays and inefficient use of resources.
Safety Concerns: The absence of user guides or manufacturer manuals made it difficult to safely erect the scaffolding. Additionally, the lack of proper climbing methods heightened the risk of accidents.
Corrosion Issues: MS scaffolding was prone to rust when exposed to moisture, compromising its strength and durability over time.
Electrical Conductivity: The conductive nature of MS scaffolding posed significant safety risks, especially during maintenance work near substations and drive rooms, increasing the likelihood of electrical hazards.
This combination of challenges made the use of metal MS scaffolding inefficient, unsafe, and costly for the maintenance work at the port.
Implications of Challenges:
The challenges with metal scaffolding resulted in:

Keeping Cool: DIY Air Conditioner Repair vs. Calling the Pros in Melbourne
Melbourne's scorching summers can turn your home into an unbearable oven. When your air conditioner throws a wrench in your cooling plans, the instinct is to fix it yourself. After all, a quick online search reveals countless DIY tips. But is tackling air conditioner repair yourself always the best option?
Before diving into the world of screwdrivers and refrigerant, it's crucial to understand when a DIY approach is feasible and when you should call in the professionals. This guide will help you determine the best course of action, keeping you cool and your wallet happy throughout the Melbourne heatwave.
Common Air Conditioner Issues & DIY Solutions
Many air conditioner issues are relatively straightforward to address, requiring only basic tools and some know-how. These include:
Filter Cleaning: Dirty filters restrict airflow, reducing efficiency and increasing energy bills. Regular cleaning is a simple task that can significantly impact your air conditioner's performance.
Condenser Unit Cleaning: The condenser unit, located outdoors, can become clogged with debris, impacting cooling. A quick rinse with a hose can often restores optimal airflow.
Fan Blade Cleaning: Accumulated dust can impede fan blade rotation, reducing cooling efficiency. Cleaning the fan blades with a soft brush is a simple fix.
Thermostat Malfunction: A faulty thermostat can prevent your air conditioner from turning on or maintaining the desired temperature. Replacing batteries or checking for loose connections is a simple DIY solution.
However, even with these seemingly simple tasks, it's essential to proceed with caution. Incorrectly handling refrigerant or electrical components can lead to serious injury, not to mention potentially voiding your warranty.
When DIY Is a No-Go:
While DIY repair can be tempting, there are times when it's best to call in a professional. Here are some red flags that indicate a professional intervention is required:
Refrigerant Leaks: Refrigerant is essential for cooling, and a leak can render your air conditioner ineffective. Attempting to recharge or repair a refrigerant leak without proper certification and equipment is extremely dangerous and illegal. Air Conditioning Repair Melbourne experts can safely and legally address refrigerant leaks.
Compressor Failure: The compressor is the heart of your air conditioner, responsible for circulating refrigerant. It takes specific equipment and knowledge to identify and replace a malfunctioning compressor.
Electrical Problems: Issues like blown fuses, tripped breakers, or faulty wiring can be hazardous. Attempting to fix these problems yourself can result in electric shock. A certified Add on Heating and Cooling Installation Melbourne specialist can safely diagnose and repair electrical issues.
Frozen Evaporator Coils: Frozen coils are a sign of a more serious problem, such as a refrigerant leak or airflow obstruction. Attempting to thaw the coils on your own could cause more harm.
Unusual Noises: If your air conditioner is making strange sounds, such as grinding, rattling, or screeching, it's a sign of a potential mechanical failure. Repairs that are more involved and costly may result from ignoring these sounds.
The Professional Advantage
Experienced Split Air-Conditioning Installation Melbourne technicians possess the knowledge, tools, and certifications necessary to handle complex repairs effectively and safely. They can:
Accurately Diagnose Problems: Professionals can identify the root cause of the issue, even if it's not immediately apparent.
Perform Safe Repairs: Certified technicians are trained in safe handling of refrigerant and electrical components, ensuring your safety and preventing further damage.
Prevent Future Problems: By addressing underlying issues, professionals can help prevent recurring problems and extend the lifespan of your air conditioner.
Offer Expert Advice: They can provide valuable insights on air conditioner maintenance and energy efficiency, helping you keep your system running optimally.
When it comes to your air conditioner, a DIY approach can save you money in some cases. However, the potential risks and complications outweigh the benefits when dealing with complex issues. Don't gamble with your safety and your air conditioner's longevity. Hitech Air Solutions provides expert Air Conditioning Repair Melbourne services, ensuring your comfort and peace of mind throughout the Melbourne summer. Contact us today for a consultation and let us handle your air conditioning needs with expertise and professionalism.
